new magnetic "nanospheres" data storage media

The invention describes a new magnetic information storage media with an uniform and regular array of magnetic nanostructures (<10 nm). Because of its reduced, monodisperse grain size and high magnetic anisotropy with an adjustable easy axes as well as its intrinsic magnetic decoupling it is capable of increasing information density on the storage media beyond limits of current technologies. One possible application for this new technology are improved computer harddisks.

Flow Surface for Three-dimensional Boundary-layer Flow

At the Universität Stuttgart (Germany) a new method was developed to significantly improve the stability of laminar flow over e.g. a wing, tail plane or wind turbine rotor, to reduce drag and therefore reach higer efficiency of machines.

New measurement mode for AFM (atomic force microscopy)

At the Karlsruher Institut of Technology a new measurement mode for AFM (atomic force microscopy) to study local elastic and tribological sample surface properties was developed. The technique allows the evaluation of lateral forces with a normal modulation technique by using the normal force signal.

Laser optical spark plug sensor

The novel measurement system enables minimal invasive measurements of tracer LIF-signals by a combination of fibre and microoptical elements integrated into a fully functional spark plug and so measurements e.g. of fuel distribution, temperature or air-fuel ratio.
