Shortening of the downstream protein purification processes and substantial cost and time savings for the purification of  therapeutic products that are manufactured by biotechnological means such as insulin and the blood clotting factor VIII

Fluorescence microscopy Near-infrared dyes for in vivo labelling

Researchers in Heidelberg, Germany developed a new fluorescence dye group which is particularly suitable for the observation of processes within living cells and in addition for the labelling of fixed cells or tissue sections (animal and plant cells). The fluorescent dyes stain selectively cell membranes and exhibit an emission spectrum in the near-infrared region not overlapping with the most commonly used fluorescent markers. Their excellent chemical properties like high photo stability, water solubility, non-toxic in cell culture and simple coupling to biomolecules suit them for a high range of applications like in the field of nantochenology.
